Herpertpur Chrisitan Hospital

Herbertpur is located 160 miles north of Delhi in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, tucked in the foothills of the Himalayas.  Herbertpur Christian Hospital (HCH) is a 100-bed general hospital that serves the hill-tribe people of the area, offering services in internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, pediatrics, psychology, and dentistry.  The hospital has an Integrated Counseling and Testing Center for HIV/AIDS, a Hepatitis B awareness program, and a program for children with special needs.  In 2009, HCH saw 80,388 outpatients and 11,797 inpatients, and performed 1,012 deliveries and 716 surgeries plus 199 eye surgeries.
HCH is a part of the larger organization, the Emmanuel Hospital Association (EHA).  The EHA is a network of 20 Christian hospitals and 30 community health programs throughout northern India with a focus on serving the poor, especially in rural areas.  In addition to meeting the health care needs of the people, EHA also strives to address social causes of poor health through literacy programs, the empowerment of women, health education and awareness, and the teaching of income-generating skills.  EHA also provides humanitarian aid and disaster relief.
The Emmanuel Hospital Association accepts medical students from all over the world to each of its hospitals for elective rotations throughout the year.  Students stay on site and assist doctors by performing physical exams, delivering babies, suturing wounds, assisting in major surgeries, and meeting other health care needs as they arise.
If you feel called to make an offering to EHA or to HCH, you may do so through the EHA's United States office, which exists to raise support for EHA's efforts in India.
